How He Proposed

Today is my and Brian’s 5th wedding anniversary!

I can’t believe we’ve been married that long –– time truly flies when you’re having fun! I’m so proud of what we have accomplished together, and can’t wait to see what happens in the future.

Earlier this week, I was thinking about the night Brian proposed to me –– it was so special and still makes me giggle like a school girl!

This was in December of 2013, a day before we headed to Illinois to spend Christmas with Brian’s family. We were coming home after a great night spent with friends. It was cold and snowy, so we got into our cozy pj’s as soon as we got home. Since we were getting ready to go out of town, I suggested that we go through our Memory Jar.

We sat together on the couch while our two pups sat at our feet. Taking turns, we each pulled out a note to read the memory we had written on it. We did this for a few rounds –– laughing, remembering and reflecting. It was perfect. Then, it was my turn again. I reached in and grabbed a yellow post-it note that had black sharpie lines drawn across it –– I had seen this note in the jar for the last couple weeks.

As I opened it up, Brian slid off the couch onto one knee. I remember looking at the note: ‘Will you marry me?’; and then back up at Brian, who was just beaming. You guys, I’m not exaggerating when I say that I saw white! Haha! I was so shocked, but so overwhelmed with genuine happiness.

The rest of the night was spent waking up our family and close friends, telling them the news –– we were both so excited! I remember laying in bed that night… just eyes wide open. I could not fall asleep.

I can’t imagine any other way I would have wanted to be asked. It was perfect, because it was us.

So, happy 5th anniversary to my Bri Guy. I love you so much.
