You Create Your Own Reality

You are creating your own reality, right now. You are creating your future, and the person you will become –– are you proud of that person?

This is a truth that I’ve struggled with the past few years. I’ve given every excuse I could, just to make myself feel better — but, at the end of the day, I wasn’t living how I wanted to be living. I wasn’t doing the things that would help me become the person I wanted to be. I wasn’t doing the things that was going to take me where I wanted to go.

If you truly want to achieve a goal, you have to decide if what you’re doing now will get you there. You have to stop and think about your life, and how you’re living it. What are you doing now, and where is it taking you?

No one else can do it for you, and no one else will care as much as you do. If you want to own your own business, or lose 10 pounds, or just be happier — no one else will care as much as you do.

You have to put in the time. You have to be willing to reprioritize your life. You have to make progress a habit.

Can you do it? You absolutely can.

Take some time today to figure out what you want your life to look like — what are your hobbies, who are your friends, what is your job, what does your day off look like, etc.? WRITE IT DOWN!

For instance, I want to have a more active lifestyle. So, instead of continuing to harden my habit of coming home after work and sitting on the couch, I think & write down what a work day as my active-self will look like:

  1. Go to work
  2. Take a walk at lunch time
  3. Come home and take the dogs for a long walk/run
  4. Check off something from my weekly to-do list
  5. Do some yoga to end the day

Taking a look at my alternate day (1) forces me to realize where I’m wasting my time, and (2) allows me to fill that time with something that will support the person I want to become. Will I be able to do this everyday –– maybe not and that’s OK. However, I am setting myself up to progress and succeed more than I was before. It allows me to be a little more aware of my choices, and reinforces that I am ultimately in control of who I and and who I will become.

Keep it simple, because progress is progress. If you want to change your life –- regardless of your goal –– you have to reshape your habits. You create your own reality –– make it one you want.
